Labor Day DUI Miami 2016

By Jonathan Blecher on September 1, 2016

The residents of Miami don’t need an excuse to celebrate and Labor Day is no exception. Each year, Labor Day is observed on the first Monday in September. This year, Labor Day will be on September 5, 2016, but the party will begin on Friday, September 2nd.

As the summer draws to a close, families return from vacation and children go back to school, and people get back into “work mode.” Labor Day is a subtle reminder that we get to say goodbye to the longer days and warmer nights with one last three-day weekend before the summer ends.

It’s Not Too Late for a Summer DUI

As a DUI attorney, each time we have a three-day weekend, we have to anticipate an increase in drunk driving arrests across Miami-Dade County. Whenever there’s cause for celebration, there’s an increase in alcohol consumption and subsequently, an uptick in DUI arrests.

It’s not just happening in Miami; law enforcement across the nation knows when and where to anticipate an increase in drunk and drugged driving. It’s common knowledge among police officers that the busiest drinking and driving periods are during the following holidays:

  • Memorial Day
  • Fourth of July
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas
  • New Year’s Day

Since these holidays are spawn alcohol-infused celebrations, some of which go on for two or three days in a row, law enforcement in Miami and throughout Florida and the nation invest additional manpower and resources in DUI task forces to nab drunk and drugged drivers during these holiday periods.

Labor Day 2016 in SoBe

Historically, Labor Day is dedicated to the social and economic efforts and achievements of America’s diverse workforce. To celebrate all of their hard work, many workers incorporate alcohol into their celebrations as they have traditionally for thousands of years. That being said, the local cops are on high alert for drunk drivers over Labor Day weekend.

This Labor Day, there are a lot of exciting events happening around Miami. From the Aquaholik Backlot Escape on Sun, Sep. 4, to the Miami Beach High School Pre-reunion BBQ, to the MIAMI NICE 2016 “ultimate weekend party experience” to One Pulse, South Beach is the place to be!

Have fun this Labor Day weekend, but don’t forget to drink responsibly. If you plan to drink, be sure to plan ahead by either designating a sober driver, using Uber, Lyft or a cab, or by taking public transportation – it beats a DUI!
