What if I Don’t Pay a Fine for a Traffic Ticket in Florida?

By Jonathan Blecher on October 23, 2019

Traffic tickets can be real headaches. They typically involve fines, and they can easily lead to increased insurance premiums, points on your record, traffic school, and sometimes even court. So, what if you fail to pay a traffic ticket in Florida? What if you moved and forgot about the ticket or what if you couldn’t afford to pay it? What would happen?

If you receive a ticket for a moving violation, such as running a red light, speeding, passing a stopped school bus, failing to stop at a stop sign, etc. and you do not pay the traffic fine that was assessed, your Florida driver license will be suspended indefinitely.

If you’re thinking about driving on a suspended license, please don’t. If you drive on a suspended license, you break the law under Section 322.34 of the Florida Statutes. Driving on a suspended or revoked license is a misdemeanor of the first or second degree in Florida, so you don’t want to do that!
