What Is Florida’s 10/20/Life Law?

Florida Statute § 775.087 was enacted in 1999 and is commonly referred to as Florida’s “10/20/Life” or the “use a gun and you’re done” law. Violating Florida gun laws regarding carrying, possessing, and discharging a firearm are subject to § 775.087, which mandates minimum sentences when a gun is used during the commission of a felony crime. Specifically, the law refers to the respective mandatory minimum prison sentences for pulling a gun (10 years), firing a gun (20 years) and shooting a person (life
sentence) in the commission of a crime.
