Penalties Associated With Murder Offenses

It is extremely important to seek an experienced criminal defense attorney when facing murder charges. The severity of murder charges depends on the type of murder committed. The sentences following a murder conviction vary in length, but all are extremely long and certainly life-changing:

  • First degree: death penalty or life without parole
  • Second degree: 10 years to life in prison
  • Third degree: 15 to 25 years in prison
  • Manslaughter: 9 ¼ to 30 years in prison
  • Vehicular homicide: Up to 30 years in prison
